Meet Coach Emma! Emma started her field hockey career in Selinsgrove, PA where she played for Selinsgrove Area High School, PA Power, and Blue Lions out of State College, PA. In 2019, Emmas family relocated to State College where she played Midfield for State College Area High School and was a 3 time PIAA District 6 Champion. In November of 2020 Emma verbally committed to the new Division I program, Bellarmine University. Emma continued playing club for Blue Lions, in addition to PA Revolutions, Pittsburgh Venom, and Pheonix Performance Academy. Emma graduated from State High in 2022, and continued on to Bellarmine University. In Spring of 2023, Emma underwent two surgeries on her legs, which resulted in a medical retirement. During breaks home from school Emma started coaching for Panthers United, and during the Summer 2023 season. Fall of 2023 Emma transferred to VCU where she is majoring in Business and Sports Leadership, while Head Coaching Varsity and JV at James River High School in Midlothian, VA.
Meet Coach Emily! Emily McNamara has over six years experience in coaching at both the club and high school level, four years of umpiring, and 13 years as a player. She’s currently the head varsity coach at Godwin High School and has held that position for three seasons.
Emily graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018 where she was a four year varsity athlete and All-American. Her most recognizable accomplishments were being a three-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 (2016-18), Rookie Team (2015), Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year (2018), 2nd Team All-American (2018), and her Region 5C Coach of the Year (2022).
Emily also sits at the top of the record books at VCU in both total goals, and total points in a single-season - and career. She also ranks amongst the top ten in assists in both categories as well.
Emily joined the Eagles in its first full season back post pandemic and hoists a 38-19 overall record. She's led the Eagles to the teams first two state tournament appearances and back-to-back Region 5C runner-up finishes. She has coached 13 All-Region 5C players and four All-State players.
Meet Coach Hood! Amy Hood is a 2001 graduate from Coatesville Area High School where she started her field hockey and lacrosse careers. She played 2 years of varsity field hockey and 4 years of lacrosse for the Raiders.
Fall of 2001, she attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania(IUP) where she continued both her field hockey and lacrosse careers at the NCAA Division II level. As much as Amy loved playing field hockey for IUP, she really excelled on the lacrosse field as a 4 year starter and 2 year team captain earning 3x All-PSAC honors. In 2019, Amy was the first Women’s Lacrosse player to be inducted into IUP’s Athletic Hall of Fame for paving the way for future IUP players. She remains 5th in career goals for the Hawks.
After graduation, Coach Hood began her teaching and coaching career in Dover, DE where she was a Health & Physical Education teacher, assistant field hockey and head lacrosse coach. In 2012, she moved to California and continued coaching girls lacrosse as field hockey became unavailable. Another move in 2015 took her to Palm Beach County, FL where she proudly headed the lacrosse program at Dwyer High School for 7 years.
In 2022, Amy and her husband moved from Palm Beach County, FL to King William, VA. She is a Health & Physical Education Teacher at King William High School and is excited to be back on the hockey field!
Coach Hood believes that sports provide the greatest opportunities to learn important life lessons and that coaches are in a unique position to provide strong positive mentorship for athletes. Her philosophy circles around hard work, accountability, taking care of the little things, controlling what you can control, awareness and family.
